His loss of interest in the family business is one of the many reasons behind his conflict with his father, Tej whom he despises for betraying her mother causing her many sufferings in life. Besides, he is Shakti-Pinky’s son and Anika's husband.After being dethroned from the Oberoi Empire, Shivaay with Anika has settled down in Goa and is now working for his own construction company, "ShivOmRu Constructions". He is Omkara and Rudra’s elder cousin brother with whom he shares a very deep and emotional bond, and also acts as a guardian to the entire family. He used to judge a person on his name, caste and blood, but his conception changed after he met, married and subsequently fell in love with Anika. The show has been officially remade in Kannada as Sathyam Sivam Sundaram, airing on Star Suvarna. Ishqbaaaz is dubbed in Tamil language with the title Kadhala Kadhala and airs on Star Vijay. Now Ishqbaaaz is back to a half an hour slot. In July 2017 Dil Boley Oberoi ended and the storylines were merged back into Ishqbaaaz, doubling its runtime.

The show initially focused on the tale of these three brothers, but later became centered on the love story of Shivaay and Anika (Surbhi Chandna) with the story of Omkara and Rudra being shifted to the spinoff series Dil Boley Oberoi. Nakuul Mehta, Kunal Jaisingh and Leenesh Mattoo portray Shivaay, Omkara and Rudra respectively, the three heirs of the Oberoi family. It premiered on 27 June 2016 and airs Mon-Fri 10-10:30pm IST. Ishqbaaaz is an Indian drama television series which is broadcast on Star Plus.
